The Big Galah is our newest release:
When a black market deal involving a fake parrot goes awry, Jimmy Hay, a blackfella from Redfern has to run for it. Stealing his girlfriend’s car he heads out west at a cracking pace and crashes on the outskirts of Wallabadabar, a town where his kind in not welcome. Hanging out at the local waterhole he goes wild and woolly and in a case of mistaken identity passes himself off as a holy man, not realizing how desperate the locals are for salvation.
The Big Galah is a gritty, humorous and touching tale of identity and race set in Outback Australia in the late Eighties.
Originally written as a six-part TV-series, The Big Galah has been adapted into a scenario, a form which bridges the gap between novel and screenplay.
Gerard Lee’s daring and colloquial style opens an opportunity for a more honest portrayal of past lives, in our current age of diluted stereotypes and interactions.
